California's Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, Part 6) require a CF1R compliance report on most new construction, additions and remodels. We calculate it, document it, and coordinate it with your drawing set.
The CF1R — Certificate of Compliance — is the primary document showing your project meets Title 24 Part 6, California's energy code. It's generated through CEC-approved compliance software after modeling your building's envelope, insulation, windows, HVAC system and water heating against the standards for your specific climate zone. San Jose and most of the South Bay fall under CEC Climate Zone 4, which sets different insulation and glazing requirements than, say, the coastal fog belt closer to the Bay itself — a generic calculation pulled from the wrong zone is one of the more common reasons a CF1R gets kicked back.
Depending on your project, the full package can also include a CF2R (installation certificate, completed during construction) and a CF3R (field verification, often requiring a certified HERS rater). We prepare the CF1R and can coordinate the downstream forms so nothing falls through between the design phase and the final inspection.
Click a stage, or let it play — this is what happens between sending us your plans and having a compliance report your city will accept.
We collect your floor plans, window and door schedules, insulation values and the HVAC and water heating equipment being installed.
Energy compliance for detached, attached and junior ADUs — sized for the unit's actual conditioned area and systems.
Learn More →Compliance calculations for room and second-story additions, scoped to the added conditioned area.
Full-building energy modeling for ground-up custom homes, from foundation through mechanical systems.
Compliance documentation scoped correctly to whether your remodel triggers prescriptive, performance or existing-building compliance paths.
Title 24, Part 6 is the California building code section covering energy efficiency standards. The CF1R is the specific compliance document — generated from energy modeling software — that shows a project meets those standards. People often use the terms interchangeably, but the CF1R is one deliverable within the broader Title 24 compliance process.
Yes. An ADU is modeled as its own building for energy compliance purposes, even when it's attached to or converted from part of an existing structure.
Yes — we regularly prepare Title 24 / CF1R documentation as a standalone service for projects where drafting is handled elsewhere, as long as we have accurate plans and building specifications to model from.
Floor plans with dimensions, window and door schedules, insulation values for walls/roof/floor, and the HVAC and water heating equipment being installed. If plans aren't finalized yet, we can work from preliminary specs and update as details are confirmed.
No — small, like-for-like remodels that don't touch the building envelope or major systems often don't trigger it. We can tell you quickly whether your specific scope requires one.
